Lectric error codes: E003 to E011 and what to check

Short answer

Lectric publishes an official code table in each model's user manual. The same short list appears in the XP 3.0, XP4 and XPress manuals: E003, E006, E007, E008, E009, E010, E011 and a HOT warning. For most codes the manual's first suggestion is to check one plug, which Lectric calls a quick plug. If a code stays, contact Lectric.

Lectric error codes at a glance

Lectric's manuals say the bike's components are "continuously monitored automatically" and that a fault code appears on the display. The table below follows the manuals. Which manual applies depends on your model, so check yours on Lectric's manuals page.

Code Meaning (Lectric manual) Lectric's most common solution Safe check for you
E003 PAS (pedal-assist) sensor fault Check PAS quick plug Switch off, make sure the visible plug is fully seated, switch on
E006 Battery undervoltage Fully charge battery Charge with the Lectric charger until its light turns green
E007 Motor fault Check motor quick plug Reseat the motor plug near the rear axle, as the manual and help page describe
E008 Throttle fault Check throttle quick plug Reseat the visible throttle plug
E009 Controller fault Check controller connections Contact Lectric (see below)
E010 Display communication, reception failure Check display quick plug Check the display plug is seated
E011 Display communication, send failure Check display quick plug Check the display plug is seated
HOT High temperature fault Stop use and allow bike to cool Stop, switch off, let the bike cool

The XP 3.0 and XPress manuals print E010 and E011 as "Display Communication Reception Failure" and "Send Failure". The XP4 manual uses the same wording.

Steps to try, in order

  1. Stop riding and switch the display and battery off.
  2. Look at the battery. It should be seated fully. Lectric's manual says the battery should not be "excessively difficult to insert or to remove" and not to force it in or out.
  3. Switch on again and note whether the same code returns. Some codes are cleared by a fresh start.
  4. For E006, charge the battery fully. The XP4 manual says E006 appears when battery voltage "gets below the usable level."
  5. For E003, E007, E008, E010 and E011, look at the plug named in the table. Lectric's help pages for E007 and E008 say to unplug a quick plug with a straight pull, not a twist, then line up the arrows on both ends and push it fully home. Only do this with the bike and battery off.
  6. For HOT, let the bike cool before the next ride.
  7. Test again. If the code returns, go to the contact box below.

What the help center adds for E007 and E008

Lectric's help-center articles for E007 (motor) and E008 (throttle) name a second step: opening the controller panel and checking every wire. The XP4 manual, in the same section as its code table, warns to "NEVER open any of the components, including the battery, display, motor, or PAS sensor" and says service "should only be performed by a bicycle repair shop." We follow the safer line and do not list that step as a user fix.

Stop here: contact the maker or a qualified e-bike shop

If a code stays after the plug checks, or the code is E009, stop here. Don't open the battery, charger, motor, controller or wiring. Contact Lectric at contact@lectricebikes.com or (602) 715-0907 (the contact details on Lectric's help center), or take the bike to a qualified e-bike shop. Stop charging and contact Lectric if the battery gets hot, swells, smells or is damaged.

Charging: what Lectric's manual says

Lectric's XP4 manual says to charge only with the charger supplied with the bike or one Lectric approves, never through a power converter or inverter, and not to leave the battery unattended while charging. It says the charger light is red while charging and turns green when finished. For wider checks see our e-bike battery won't charge guide.
