E-bike error codes list: find your brand and display

Last checked Oct 23, 2026 ยท By EbikePost editors

Short answer

An e-bike error code is a message from the bike's electronics, and its meaning depends on who made the motor and display, not only the bike brand. Find the label on your drive unit or display, then use that maker's own list. The safe owner checks are the same everywhere: switch off, check the battery is seated and charged, let a hot or cold bike settle, restart, and contact the maker if the code stays.

Good to know

Many brands use someone else's motor. A Bosch, Bafang or Shimano code can show up on a bike sold under a different name, so check the label or manual for who made the drive system.

Step 1: write down the code exactly

Note letters and digits (E007 is not the same as 007), whether the bike was riding, starting or charging, and the temperature. Some displays keep a history: Bafang's DP C18 manual says its display keeps the last ten codes.

Step 2: find the right list

  • Component makers publish lists for their own parts. Bosch's Kiox manual has a fault code table. Shimano points owners to its own lookup page. Bafang's display manuals list codes for the display model.
  • Bike brands publish lists for their own bikes. Lectric's manuals list E003 to E011. Aventon has support pages by code and by drive system.
  • Use only the list for your model. Forum and retailer lists often disagree with makers' lists and with each other. We link only to the makers' own documents.

Step 3: the safe checks that apply to every bike

  1. Stop riding and switch the system off.
  2. Check the battery is fully seated, as your manual describes, and charged. See e-bike battery not charging.
  3. If the code mentions temperature, let the bike or battery reach a normal temperature before switching on. Bosch, Lectric and Bafang all list temperature codes.
  4. Check anything the manual says you may check: visible plugs fully seated, throttle released, stuck buttons cleaned, brake levers returning fully.
  5. Restart. Some codes clear with a fresh start. Bosch's manual says "Restart the system" for many of its codes.
  6. If the code returns, contact the maker or a qualified e-bike shop with your exact code.
Stop here: contact the maker or a qualified e-bike shop

Don't open the battery, motor, controller, display or wiring, and don't test or repair anything electrical yourself. Don't use software or tricks to clear codes, change speed limits or unlock the bike. Contact the maker or a qualified e-bike shop.

Codes that point to the same few things

Across makers, codes often fall into a few groups. This is a general pattern, so rely on your own list for the actual meaning.

  • Battery and charging: Lectric E006 (undervoltage), Bosch 6xx, Bafang 06, 07 and 22.
  • Temperature: Bosch 540 and 605, Bafang 10, 13 and 14, Lectric HOT.
  • Throttle and sensors: Lectric E008, Bafang 04, 05 and 21, Bosch 503.
  • Communication between parts: Lectric E010 and E011, Bafang 30, Bosch 414 and 424.

Law / safety note

Battery safety: use the maker's charger and follow your manual. See UL 2849 and the CPSC Micromobility Information Center.
