Short answer

Heybike prints a short error-code table in each model's user manual, and the lists differ by model. Mars 3.0, Mars 2.5, Ranger 3.0 Pro, Saturn, Venus and Hybrid use E60 to E65. Ranger S 2.0 adds E66. Mars 2.0 and Horizon use E021 to E025 and E030. Alpha uses E02 to E13, and Cityscape 2.0 uses 30 and 33 to 37. Heybike's own blog says "the same code can mean different things on different systems," so match your model first.

Match your bike to its manual

Heybike's blog tells you to record the exact code and what happened before it, and to identify the full model name, display version and market, since "Mars" or "Ranger" alone may not identify the system. Heybike lists every manual on its user manuals page. The code tables are printed in the display section of each. These manuals are image-based PDFs with no copyable text, and we read each table directly from the page.

Heybike's manuals don't say who makes the display or controller, so we haven't linked these to another maker's list. The Ranger S 2.0 manual does say that "the meaning of the error code is generally defined by the controller."

E60 to E65: Mars 3.0, Mars 2.5, Ranger 3.0 Pro, Saturn, Venus, Hybrid

These six manuals carry the same table (Mars 3.0 V5, Mars 2.5 v1, Ranger 3.0 Pro V5.1, Saturn, Venus V2 and the Hybrid manual v1). Heybike gives only a short name for each code and no repair steps, so the safe checks are ours, limited to what an owner can do.

Code What Heybike says Safe checks you can do When to contact Heybike
E60 Controller failure Switch off, restart Always, if it returns
E61 Throttle failure Check the throttle moves freely and returns to rest; look at its cable for pinching If it stays
E62 Communication failure Switch off, make sure the battery is fully seated, restart If it returns
E63 Battery under voltage Charge the battery fully with the charger that came with the bike If it returns after a full charge
E64 Brake failure Make sure both brake levers are fully released and return If it stays with levers released
E65 Motor/Hall sensor failure Switch off, look at the visible motor cable for damage Always, if it returns

Ranger S 2.0 (manual V3)

The same E60 to E65 list appears, with two differences in wording. E61 is "Turn the handle faulty" (the throttle), and E65 reads "Motor fault (missing phase)." It adds E66, Hall failure. Checks and contact advice are as above.

Alpha

Code What Heybike says Safe check Contact Heybike
E02 Brake error Make sure levers are released and return If it stays
E06 Battery under voltage Charge fully If it returns
E07 Motor error Look at visible motor cable Always
E08 Handlebar error Check the handlebar controls and throttle move freely If it stays
E09 Controller error Switch off, restart Always
E10 Communication error Check the battery is seated, restart If it returns
E12 BMS communication error Switch off, reseat the battery as the manual describes, restart Always
E13 Headlight error Check the light cable is visible and seated If it stays

("BMS" is the battery management system.)

Mars 2.0 and Horizon

Both print the same six codes: E021 (Current failure on Mars 2.0, "Abnormal current" on Horizon), E022 throttle, E023 motor phase, E024 Hall, E025 brake and E030 communication. Check throttle movement and brake levers for E022 and E025, check the battery is seated for E030, and contact Heybike for E021, E023 and E024.

Cityscape 2.0

Cityscape 2.0's manual (dated 20240419) lists numbers without an "E": 30 communication, 33 current, 34 throttle, 35 motor phase, 36 motor Hall, 37 brake, and 0 for "Normal condition." The manual's FAQ says to describe a problem in detail and send photos or videos with your order ID.

The Hero (750W mid-drive) manual shows its codes as flashing gear lights on an LED display, in two tables (display codes and controller codes). If you have a Hero, read that table in the manual rather than relying on the lists above.

Steps to try, in order

  1. Stop riding and switch the bike off. Note the exact code and what you were doing.
  2. Check the battery is seated and charged, using only the charger that came with the bike.
  3. Release the brakes and check both levers return fully.
  4. Look at what you can see: the throttle and its cable, the visible motor cable, the display cable. With the bike off, look for pinching, fraying or a loose plug. Don't pull on anything.
  5. Switch on again. Heybike's blog says to contact support before changing advanced parameters. Don't copy settings from another display or app.
  6. Test again. If the code returns, go to the contact box.

Heybike's app blog (27 Apr 2026) lists a Bike Diagnosis feature under its 4G advanced features, available only on compatible models. It says it can help identify errors such as abnormal current, motor phase loss and communication reception failure. It's a reading tool, not a repair.

Stop here: contact the maker or a qualified e-bike shop

If a code returns after the checks, stop here. Don't open the battery, display, motor or controller, don't change speed or other advanced settings to clear a code, and don't swap parts. Contact Heybike at support@heybike.com or +1 888-301-6908 or +1 888-859-1518 (Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm Eastern Standard Time, or 10 am to 7 pm Eastern Daylight Time, per Heybike's contact page), with your model, the exact code and photos. Stop charging and contact Heybike if the battery gets hot, swells, smells or is damaged. See our e-bike battery won't charge guide for charging checks.

FAQ

What does Heybike error code 21 mean? Heybike's manuals for Mars 2.0 and Horizon print it as E021, a current failure (Horizon says "abnormal current"). Newer manuals above don't list a 21 at all.

What does Heybike error 30 mean? In the Cityscape 2.0 manual, 30 is a communication issue. In Mars 2.0 and Horizon, E030 is a communication failure. In the E60 list, communication is E62.

What does E62 mean on a Heybike? A communication failure, per the Mars 3.0 manual and the other manuals that share its table.

Can I reset a Heybike error? Heybike's blog says there's no universal controller reset and tells you to identify your exact model first. Restarting is the only owner step we describe.
