Ride1Up error codes: 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 30 and more
Last checked Nov 3, 2026 · By EbikePost editors

Ride1Up publishes a separate error-code page for each model on its support site, and the lists differ. Portola, LMT'D and 700 Series bikes use 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 30. Roadster V2 and V3, Vorsa and CF Racer1 use 07, 08, 09, 11, 12, 14, 21 and 30, with 25 added on the Roadster V3 and Vorsa. Revv1 and Portola 02 have their own lists. Find your model first, because the same number can mean different things.
Find your model's list first
Ride1Up's pages all open the same way: glance at the display when it's safe, because codes "may only be shown on the display briefly," and write down what you see. Then use the page for your bike. The tables below follow Ride1Up's pages, summarised and shortened. Open the one for your model on Ride1Up's support site before you act.
Ride1Up's pages don't name who makes the display or the controller, so we haven't linked these codes to another maker's list. Don't assume a Bafang list applies.
Portola, LMT'D, Cafe Cruiser, Turris and 700 Series
Ride1Up's Portola, LMT'D and 700 Series pages share one list (the Cafe Cruiser and Turris pages follow the same pattern).
| Code | What Ride1Up says it means | Safe checks you can do | When to contact Ride1Up |
|---|---|---|---|
| 21 | Voltage current error: the battery isn't supplying the voltage the display and motor need. Ride1Up says this can come from working the bike too hard, for example long climbs without pedaling hard | Pull over safely, switch off, wait 5 minutes, switch on (Ride1Up's own step) | If it keeps coming back on normal rides |
| 22 | Throttle error, "most commonly" a physical problem such as a stuck lever or damage | Press and release the throttle; it should return to rest. Remove any obstruction. Look for a cut or frayed cable | A damaged cable, or a code that stays once the throttle moves freely |
| 23 | Motor phase error. Ride1Up says it can appear if the cable wasn't reconnected after removing the rear wheel | If you've just had the rear wheel off, check the motor cable by the chainstay is connected, clean and fully home | Damage to the cable, or if it stays |
| 24 | Motor communication or hall sensor error: a motor phase wire damaged or disconnected, or a cable damaged where it leaves the axle | Look for a visible cable problem near the chainstay with the bike off. Don't pull on it | Any visible damage, or if the code stays |
| 25 | Electronic brake shutoff (EBS). Ride1Up says this often follows a crash or a drop | Make sure both brake levers fully release and return | If it stays, or a lever is damaged |
| 26 | Low voltage: the battery is supplying too little voltage to the controller | Charge the battery fully with the Ride1Up charger | If it returns after a full charge |
| 30 | Communication error between controller and display. Ride1Up says it's often a stressed or damaged display cable, but can involve the controller or, rarely, the motor | Look at the display cable for tears or corrosion, with the bike off | Any damage, or if the code stays |
Roadster V2 and V3, Vorsa and CF Racer1
These four pages share most of one list.
| Code | What Ride1Up says it means | Safe checks you can do | When to contact Ride1Up |
|---|---|---|---|
| 07 | Overvoltage protection: the battery is supplying too much voltage to the controller | Use only your bike's own charger. Ride1Up's step is to check battery and charger voltage, which needs a meter, so leave that to Ride1Up or a shop | Always, if it returns |
| 08 | Failure of the motor's hall signal wire; the cable may be damaged, disconnected or loose | Check the visible motor cable, with the bike off | Any damage |
| 09 | Failure of the motor's phase wire; same causes | Same | Any damage |
| 11 | Controller temperature sensor: the controller has reached its maximum temperature, or the sensor is faulty | Switch off and let the bike cool down | If it returns once cool |
| 12 | Current sensor failure: the battery is supplying too high a current to the controller | Switch off, restart | Always, if it returns |
| 14 | Motor temperature: the motor has reached its maximum temperature | Switch off and let it cool | If it returns once cool |
| 21 | Speed sensor failure in the motor or its wiring | Look at the visible motor cable | If it stays |
| 25 (Roadster V3 and Vorsa only) | Torque sensor error: a communication problem between the bottom-bracket torque sensor and the controller | Switch off, restart | Always, if it returns |
| 30 | Communication failure: a component can't talk to the controller, or is faulty | Look at visible connectors with the bike off | If it stays |
The Roadster V2 and CF Racer1 pages don't list 25. Ride1Up's Portola 02 page lists a shorter set: 05, 07, 08, 12, 13, 25 and 30 (throttle, overvoltage, motor hall wire, current sensor, controller temperature sensor, torque sensor and communication). The Revv1 page lists 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26, 30 and 39, including motor, battery and controller overheating (10, 13, 14) and a headlight fault (23, 24). On Revv1, 21 is a speed sensor and 25 a brake sensor, not the same meanings as the lists above.
Steps to try, in order
- Write down the code and note when it appeared: climbing, starting, braking, or just after a wheel change.
- Switch off, wait, switch on. Ride1Up's own step for code 21 is to wait 5 minutes. For the temperature codes (10, 11, 13, 14), the pages say to switch off and let the part cool.
- Check the battery is seated and charged, using only your bike's charger.
- Release the brakes and check both levers return fully (code 25).
- Look, don't pull. With the bike off, look at the display cable, the motor cable and the throttle cable for cuts, fraying, pinching or a plug that has backed out.
- Test again. If the code returns, go to the contact box.
What the pages add, and why we stop there
Ride1Up's pages also say things like "check or replace the controller," "disconnect and reconnect" the motor cable, unplug the electronic brake shutoff wires one at a time, and "replace the motor controller" (Revv1 code 39). Those are repairs inside the drive system. We don't list them as owner steps.
If a code stays after the checks above, stop here. Don't open the battery, motor, controller or wiring, don't unplug brake shutoff wires, and don't swap parts. Contact Ride1Up on 1-877-743-3187 (Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm Pacific, per its contact page) or use the form on its contact page. Ride1Up's pages ask you to include photos or video of the issue and the checks you've done. Stop charging and contact Ride1Up if the battery gets hot, swells, smells or is damaged.
FAQ
What does Ride1Up error code 21 mean? On Portola, LMT'D and 700 Series pages, Ride1Up calls it a voltage current error, and its first step is to pull over, switch off and wait 5 minutes. On Roadster, Vorsa and Revv1 it means a speed sensor problem instead.
What does Ride1Up error code 30 mean? A communication failure between parts of the system. Ride1Up's Portola page says it's often a damaged display cable.
What does Ride1Up error 24 mean? On the Portola list, a motor communication or hall sensor error. On Revv1 it's a headlight sensor error. Use your model's page.
