E-bike battery recalls and warnings: the CPSC list
Last checked Oct 27, 2026 · By EbikePost editors

CPSC's own recall and warning listings hold eight e-bike battery fire notices from 2024 through 2026: four recalls (Pacific Cycle, Santa Cruz, VIVI, FENGQS) and four warnings issued when the maker would not agree to a recall (UPP, Rad Power Bikes, Ridstar, and FENGQS before its recall). The table below gives the date, what CPSC says is wrong and what it tells you to do, with a link to each notice. Check your battery's model label against the notice before you decide anything.
You see a headline about a battery fire and wonder if it's your battery. The only reliable answer is on cpsc.gov, so this page collects the e-bike battery notices there and links to each one. It is a reading aid, not a replacement for the notice itself.
List checked against CPSC's published recall and warning listings on Oct 24, 2026. Search the current database yourself at CPSC Recalls (type your brand, or "e-bike") and CPSC Warnings.
The CPSC list, newest first
A "recall" means the company agreed to a remedy. A "warning" is CPSC speaking on its own because, in each case below, CPSC says the maker would not agree to an acceptable recall.
| Date | Brand and model | The problem, in plain words | What CPSC says to do | Notice |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mar 19, 2026 (warning) | Ridstar Q20 and Q20 Pro e-bikes | Batteries and wires can ignite. CPSC cites 11 fire reports, including one burn injury. Sold on Amazon.com, Ridstar.net and Walmart.com. | Remove the battery from the e-bike immediately and dispose of it through local hazardous-waste procedures. Do not sell or give it away. | CPSC |
| Nov 24, 2025 (warning) | Rad Power Bikes batteries, models RP-1304, RAD-S1304Y, HL-RP-S1304 | Batteries can unexpectedly ignite and explode, especially if the battery or harness has been exposed to water and debris. CPSC cites 31 fire reports. | Stop using immediately. Remove the battery from the bike and dispose of it through local hazardous-waste procedures. Do not sell or give it away. | CPSC |
| Jul 24, 2025 (recall) | FENGQS F7 Pro e-bikes with batteries made Apr 21, 2024 (about 100 units) | The lithium-ion battery can overheat and ignite. | Stop using immediately and contact FENGQS for a full refund. The notice asks you to mark the battery "recalled" and photograph it, and not to put it in the trash or in store battery-recycling boxes. | CPSC |
| Jul 17, 2025 (recall) | 36-volt batteries sold with certain VIVI e-bikes (about 24,000 units; model lists are in the notice) | The batteries can overheat. 14 overheating reports, three of them fires. | Stop using the e-bike and contact VIVI for a free replacement battery and charger. Dispose of the old battery at a household hazardous waste center. | CPSC |
| Jun 18, 2025 (warning) | FENGQS F7 Pro e-bikes | Battery can overheat and ignite. CPSC cites nine fire reports. This came before the July recall above. | Remove the battery and dispose of it through local hazardous-waste procedures. | CPSC |
| May 1, 2025 (recall) | Santa Cruz Heckler 9 electric bicycles with the 720W battery (about 2,850 sold in the U.S.) | The lithium-ion battery can overheat. Three fire reports, some property damage, no injuries reported. | Stop using, disconnect the battery from the bike and charger, and register on Santa Cruz's recall page for a free replacement battery. | CPSC |
| Apr 15, 2024 (warning) | Unit Pack Power (UPP) e-bike batteries, models U004 and U004-1 | Fire and burn hazard. CPSC cites 13 overheating reports, seven of them fires, and says the batteries were not certified to the applicable UL standard by an accredited lab. | Stop using and dispose of the battery following your local rules for damaged or recalled lithium batteries. Not in the trash or store battery boxes. | CPSC |
| Jan 25, 2024 (recall) | Pacific Cycle Ascend Cabrillo (R7583BPS, R7585BPS) and Minaret (R7586BPS), about 1,700 bikes | The wiring harness that manages charging was not properly assembled, risking overheating and fire while charging. | Stop using and unplug. Enter your serial number on Pacific Cycle's recall page, then return the bike to Bass Pro Shops or Cabela's for a full refund. | CPSC |
What this table leaves out: recalls for other reasons (brakes, frames, bolts, software) are not battery recalls, and many e-bike brands appear in those. Lectric and Aventon, for example, each have a CPSC recall on file, but neither is about a battery: Lectric's (Sep 7, 2023) concerned mechanical disc brake calipers, and Aventon's (Jan 4, 2024) concerned Sinch.2 folding bikes that could accelerate unexpectedly. Searching CPSC for your brand shows those too.
If you own one of these
Rad Power Bikes owners: CPSC's warning of Nov 24, 2025 covers batteries with model numbers RP-1304, RAD-S1304Y and HL-RP-S1304 and says to remove them from the bike and dispose of them as hazardous waste. Rad did not agree to a recall. Read what Rad owners can do now for the warranty and service situation.
- Find your battery's model label. CPSC's notices point to labels: the VIVI notice says battery model information is on the battery itself, the FENGQS notice says the capacity and production date are on a label on the front of the battery, and the Ridstar notice says the model number may be on your purchase receipt. Look on the pack first (take a removable one off the bike), then at your manual, order confirmation or receipt. Photograph what you find.
- Compare it with the notice. Recalls list exact model numbers, date codes or sale periods. If yours isn't listed, the notice doesn't cover it.
- If it matches, follow the notice. Stop charging and riding. Don't open the pack, test it, or try a fix.
- Don't throw it out with household trash. CPSC's notices say recalled or defective lithium batteries go to a household hazardous waste center, and to call ahead to ask whether it accepts them. If it doesn't, they say to contact your municipality.
Keep your order email and receipt. The VIVI and Ridstar notices both point to your sales documentation or receipt for the model number.
What doesn't show up on this list
No notice on this list means CPSC hasn't posted one, not that a battery is safe. Our UL 2849 guide covers the certification CPSC points buyers to, and the habits it lists: charge only with the maker's charger, stay present while charging, never charge while asleep. If your battery gets hot, swells, leaks or smells wrong, see e-bike battery not charging and stop using it.
Contact the maker or CPSC if: your bike is on a notice and you can't tell whether your battery model matches, the maker's recall page won't load or doesn't answer, or your battery has overheated or caught fire. You can report a product problem to CPSC at SaferProducts.gov.
FAQ
Is there a CPSC recall on Lectric or Aventon e-bike batteries? Not in the 2024 to 2026 battery listings we checked on Oct 24, 2026. Both makers have non-battery recalls on file (Lectric brake calipers in 2023, Aventon Sinch.2 in 2024).
Is the Rad Power Bikes battery warning a recall? No. CPSC issued a warning because Rad did not agree to a recall. The notice tells owners to stop using the batteries and dispose of them as hazardous waste.
Where do I look up a recall by brand? Use the search box at cpsc.gov/Recalls, and check cpsc.gov/Warnings too, since warnings are listed separately.
Can I still get a replacement battery if mine is recalled? Only the remedy in the notice applies, for example VIVI's free replacement or FENGQS's refund. Never buy a lookalike pack. See our replacement battery guide.
