E-bike tune-up cost: what it includes and sample prices

Last checked Oct 24, 2026 · By EbikePost editors

Rider wheeling a fat-tire e-bike into a neighborhood bike shop
Short answer

There is no national price for an e-bike tune-up, so we do not give an average. Prices come from each shop and change by city. For examples, one Rad Power Bikes service location lists a Basic Tune at $120, a Rad Tune at $220 and an Overhaul at $375, with parts extra. evo's Portland shop lists a Basic Tune at $110 plus an e-bike service fee of $55 on top of any tune. Velofix and Aventon do not show a price without your location or a dealer. Ask each shop what is in its package before you book.

What a tune-up usually includes

Names differ, so compare the lists rather than the names. Three published lists show the pattern.

Shop or maker Entry package What it lists What it leaves out
Rad Power Bikes (one RadRetail page) Basic Tune: $120 20-point mechanical and electrical inspection, brake adjustment, shifter and derailleur calibration, fastener torque and safety inspection, electric powertrain function check, chain lube, tire inflation, test ride Parts; pads cost extra, though pad replacement has no extra labor charge
Velofix Silver Tune: price by postal code Full safety inspection, wipe down, chain lube, shifter and derailleur adjustment, brake lever and caliper adjustment, minor wheel adjustments, external connection check, test ride Parts, tubes, tires and installation; e-bike diagnostic time is billed hourly
evo (Portland) Basic Tune: $110 ($95 members) Shifting, brake and headset adjustments, tire inflation, chain lube, bike wash, bolt and torque safety check Drivetrain cleaning, suspension work and brake bleeds

Higher tiers add work. Rad's Rad Tune lists a 40-point inspection, drivetrain cleaning, frame and fork cleaning and wheel tensioning ($220 on that page), and its Overhaul adds a 60-point inspection, a full bike wash, wheel true and bottom bracket and headset bearing service as needed ($375 on that page). Velofix's Gold Tune adds spoke re-tensioning for both wheels. evo's Standard Tune ($190 on that page) adds bottom bracket and hub adjustments, wheel truing and drivetrain cleaning.

These are single listings, not averages, and they will change. A different Rad or evo location can list a different price, and an independent shop has its own menu.

What an e-bike adds to the bill

The mechanical list is the same as for any bike. The e-bike parts of the list vary. Rad lists an electric powertrain function check inside its Basic Tune. Velofix lists an external connection check and bills e-bike diagnostic time hourly. evo adds a flat e-bike service fee that includes diagnostic updates. Nothing on these pages promises that a shop will repair motors or batteries. Never open the battery, motor or controller yourself.

How often

  • Lectric says to have a shop do a tune-up after 100 miles or 5 full charge cycles, to do monthly checks (tires, chain lube, bolts, pads, cleaning) and to have the bike serviced at least once a year.
  • Aventon advises a full tune-up with a local dealer once a year, or sooner if something feels off.
  • Bosch's manual says to have the system checked by an expert at least once a year, including mechanical parts and the software.

What to ask the shop

  1. What is on the list? Ask for the written inspection list, not just the package name.
  2. Do you service my motor brand? For Bosch, the manual says to use a certified bicycle dealer for repairs. Ask whether the shop can read diagnostics for your system.
  3. What is billed separately? Parts, pads, tubes, tires, brake bleeds and diagnostics can each be extra.
  4. What is the labor rate if more work is found?
  5. Will you call before extra work?
  6. How long will it take, and is there any follow-up adjustment period?

What to bring: the bike, the charger if the shop asks for it, your manual, and a note of any noises, error codes or changes in range. If your battery will not charge, try the safe checks in e-bike battery not charging first and tell the shop what you saw.

Good to know

You can lower the bill by keeping up with safe owner checks: tire pressure (pumps), cleaning and a chain check between visits. A shop then spends time on adjustments instead of discovering neglect.

Stop here: contact the maker or a qualified e-bike shop

When to book a shop: brakes feel soft or noisy, gears skip, the display shows a code that does not clear, the bike behaves differently after a crash or soaking, or the battery has an odd smell, heat or swelling. Do not open the battery, motor or controller. If your bike is a Rad, see what Rad owners can do now for service options.
